SPEEDING
Speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic
accidents. Speeding is a deliberate and calculated behavior where the
driver knows the risk but ignores the danger. Speeding is defined as
traveling faster than the posted speed limit or traveling too fast for
the road conditions even at speeds under the posted limit.
Speed limit is the maximum speed of travel permitted by a vehicle on a
road by law. Speed limits vary by type of road including number of
lames. Speeding is a major road safety problem because it dramatically
increases braking distance and significantly increases crash severity.
Collisions involving speeding represented at least 38 per cent of fatal
crashes and 16 per cent of all accidents.
Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or
objects in the roadway, extends the distance necessary to stop a
vehicle and increases the distance a vehicle travels while the river
reacts to a dangerous situation.
For drivers involved in fatal crashes, young males are the most likely
to be speeding. 34 per cent of speeding drivers and motorcycle riders
involved in fatal accidents were men aged between 17 and 25. In
contrast, only 4 per cent were women in this age group. Speed was a
factor in over 40 per cent of fatal crashes in country areas. The
percentage of speeding involvement in fatal crashes was approximately
twice as high for motorcyclists as for drivers of passenger cars or
light trucks.
There are many reasons why drivers result to speeding. Maybe they are
in a hurry or maybe they need to get someone to the hospital or other
such emergencies. Though this may be the case sometimes, it is not the
case all the time.
Some just like to live in danger. They speed because they feel the rush
when they do or they just want to test out their automobile
capabilities. Often, speeding accidents could have been avoided
altogether if the liable party had simply remain to the speed limit or
paid more attention. In most states, auto accident victims who have
suffered personal injury as a result of speeding by a third party may
be entitled to recover damages for pain and suffering, emotional
distress, disability, permanent disfigurement, dismemberment, wrongful
death, scarring, loss of opportunity to enjoy life, interference with
marital and/or parental relationships, and other types of personal
injury or general damage.
If you are involved in an accident as a result of speeding it is
essential that measures be taken promptly to preserve evidence,
investigate the accident in question and enable doctors or other
witnesses to thoroughly evaluate any injuries. Don’t delay and consult
a lawyer immediately. You may be able to have a valid claim and be
entitled to compensation for your injuries.
